Forecaster to Al Gore--An Inconvenient Truth Indeed

Dr. William Gray, one of the countries top hurricane predictors, slams Al Gore's stance on Global Warming.

Dr. William Gray thinks Al Gore has no idea what he is talking about when it comes to the climate. Dr.Gray feels Gore is just a "a gross alarmist", and that Gore is just one of those people who like to preach about the end of the world.

Al Gore was on a flight from Washington, D.C. to Nashville, and he did not have an immediate response to Dr. Gray's comments.

Gray, an emeritus professor at the atmospheric science department at Colorado State University, has long railed against the theory that heat-trapping gases generated by human activity are causing the world to warm.

For the last 24 years, Dr. Gray has become America's top hurricane predictor. Lately, Dr. Gray's mentee, Philip Klotzbach, has been taking over much of Gray's hurricane forecasting work.

Dr. Gray issued his statement on the same day the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change approved a report stating the world will face serious consequences unless all nations agree to adapt some sort of climate change policy. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report states some of the consequences the world may face are shortages in food and water along with a possibility of increased flooding and other catastrophic weather events.

Dr. Gray believes the recent trend of higher hurricane activity is due to a multi-decade trend of high and low hurricane periods that relate more to ocean patterns instead of global warming. Dr. Gray went on to say he believes the ocean temperatures are going to drop in the next 5 to 10 years. A decrease in ocean temperatures will cause less hurricanes to develop because the formation of a hurricane relies on warm ocean water.

However, Kerry Emanuel, an MIT professor, and a rival to Dr. Gray feels Gray is very incorrect in his belief that global warming is not the cause of more hurricanes. Dr. Emanuel points out there is more than enough evidence showing the world is indeed getter hotter.

For now, it appears the debate about global warming will go on probably without any major change in policies by the world's nations. Let's hope Dr. Gray is right in his theories about global warming because if he is wrong the world may indeed be heading down the wrong path to climate change.
