Is America Ready for HealthCare Reform-Sen.Obama Thinks So

Feeling confident after successful fund-raising trips;Sen. Barack Obama feels Americans are now primed for discussions on major health care reform.

With Sen. Barack Obama's camp reporting that his campaign has brought in around 25 million, Sen.Obama feels now is the time for Presidential candidates to start serious debates about the future of health care in America.

Sen.Obama states his campaign was able to bring in so much money because his campaign has been receiving contributions as small as $10 to $25. His campaign feels these donations are coming from the 'small' voices in America that are looking for radical change in the way our government is currently treating the American people.

Chirs Taylor, spokesman for the RNC (Republican National Committee ), said he hopes this sudden infusion of money will help Sen.Obama complie a more specific health care plan that Sen.Obama can share with the American people.

Sen.Obama responded by saying that he was moving slowly because he wants to make sure the required political support is there before any health care plan can be developed. Sen.Obama also notes that every time there is a Presidential election, all the hopefuls trot out these great health care plans only to see these plans dissolve because of the lack of political support needed to push the health care agenda forward.

Sen.Obama said is not tied down to any one way to fix health care, but he does seem to feel that some type of universal coverage may be effective in taking out the inefficiencies out of the current health care system. Sen.Obama thinks any health care plan needs to be centered around preventive programs, such as weight control. Sen.Obama feels the current status quo of health coverage is no longer an option, and that it is time to move forward with a new approach.

Obama feels a single payer health care plan similar to that run by Canada would be a good idea if he had to start a plan from scratch. However, Sen.Obama notes such a plan may not be a good idea because of the complex and established system of employer-based health coverage currently in place. However, Obama also points out that half the Americans are all ready covered by government run programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.

Sen.Obama is hoping to seek a consensus for a new system by holding small invitation-only health care meeting across the country to gauge public opinion on what is the best way to reform health care. Sen.Obama also rejected the idea that taxes will have to be raised in order to support any revamped health care system.

At a current meeting of 90 people in Mason City, Iowa, Sen.Obama said he was surprised to hear how many people were unwilling to change the current system of health care.

Doctor Janice Kirsch said the issue of health care reform is a lot more complex than just letting the government run health care for all Americans. Dr.Krisch notes there is just not a simple answer to such a complex problem.

On the other end, Mason City resident Kandee Bartholomew states her lack of health coverage has caused her to think carefully before taking on any activity because she is afraid of injury.

Wherever you stand on this issue, it does seem that some type of health care reform is needed to ensure all Americans have some type of coverage because Americans should not have to worry about taking part in a physical activity because it may cause injury.
