Policiticans Race for Your Votes in Hybrid Cars

When it comes to getting votes, policiticans will stop at nothing to get yours even if this means starting the engine on a hybrid car.

In the race for getting elected, politicians will try or do just about anything to get, or stay, in office even if that means driving from place to place in environmentally healthy cars.

With more and more Americans looking at ways to save the environment and reduce their dependence on oil and gas, politicians have taken to driving hybrid cars and vehicles to show the American public they are the ones to choose in the upcoming 2008 elections.

Democratic candidate John Edwards has always made it a point to remind people that his family has switched from that ever popular, gas guzzling SUV to a more environmentally safe hybrid car.

John Edwards also has just recently announced that his 2008 Presidential campaign will become even more environmentally friendly by doing what they can to limit energy usage. Edwards campaign team also plans on buying "carbon offsets" in an effort to balance his use of carbon emissions he may use during his run for the Presidency.

However, if you think Edwards is the only one trying to 'green up' his campaign for office you would be wrong, because when it comes to the game of winning votes, politicians tend to follow the "'monkey see monkey do" philosophy.

Not wanting to fall behind her Democratic rivals, former first lady, and current Senator from NY, Hillary Rodham Clinton has requested that the Secret Service drive her around in a fleet of cars that includes Ford hybrid models. It should be noted the Mrs.Clintion often drives in vehicles owned and operated by the Secret Service.

Democratic Senator Barack Obama came out with a statement saying he often drives a flex fuel vehicle that can burn both fossil fuel gas and the cleaner ethanol and gasoline mixed fuel.

The Republicans are evn trying to get onto the hybrid car bandwagon in an effort to stop the Democrats from cornering the environmentally safe votes market.

Republican Mitt Romney made his announcement for his Presidential run while standing in front of a Ford Escape. The Escape is Ford's hybrid SUV model. While on the campaign trail, Romney likes to point out the fact his father, George, once headed AMC (American Motors Corp.). Romney notes the AMC Rambler was the first American car made with fuel efficiency in mind.

Romney may have a leg up on his fellow Republicans because it appears his competition is still struggling with this environmentally sound idea of having cars run on non-fossil fuel sources.

Republican Rudy Giuliani gave a an energy policy speech in New York last summer that included a pitch for the use of hybrid cars; however, Giuliani had his Cadillac Escalade, an SUV that gets about 13 mpg, idling outside for him. It should be noted that Mr.Giuliani did manage to walk to his next campaign stop instead of hopping into is gas guzzling SUV.

Even Senator John McCain has been slow to warm up to the idea of alternate fuel cars, because he is often seen driving around in a Cadillac CTS, which gets city mileage in the 15-17 mpg.

With more and more people becoming ever increasingly concerned about a safer environment, and also fuel conversation, maybe these politicians driving around in more fuel efficient, and environmentally friendly, vehicles will bring more attention to the subject of energy and environmental conservation.

From an environmental and at the same time politician's perspective, it makes more sense to improve the fuel economy of the biggest gas-guzzlers instead of already efficient economy cars. For example, if a car gets 35 MPG, then a 25% improvement would yield 44 MPG. These numbers are close to what the Toyota hybrid and non-hybrid models get that uses Toyota oxygen sensor. If you drive both 15K miles, the hybrid uses 86 less gallons of fuel... Which is really good for a hybrid car...
