Will interactive TV be a 'Wildfire' for ABC and Lycos?
The March 26 season finale of the ABC family show, Wildfire, will get a second airing over the Internet in an interactive TV session that ABC sees as the future of TV.
Fans of the racehorse saga will be able to host discussion groups and watch the show together, complete with pause, fast-forward and rewind functions.
The ad-free online version will be available for six days, beginning at 9 p.m. Eastern — right after the episode airs in that time zone, but two hours before it is available on TV on the West Coast.
This experimental interactive session will be shown on Lycos.com.
This experiment will give fans of the 'Wildfire' show a chance to discuss and view the show at the same time. Fans will be able to fast forward, rewind, and pause the show will leading discussions about the season finale.
With the growth of on-line discussion groups, blogs and chat rooms for fans of TV shows, this sounds like one experiment whose time as come.
