NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has decided to hand down discipline for two of the NFL's bad boys.
Within the next 10 days, new NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is set to announce disciplinary measures against Adam 'Pacman' Jones of the Tennessee Titans and Chris Henry of the Cincinnati Bengals. Goodell will make this announcement after he meets with these two players.
"These are part of the hearings I've had with a player or coach facing discipline decisions," Goodell said Wednesday as the league meetings concluded. "It's to get their perspective, look them in the eye and get them thinking. They are clearly (designed) to give me better info and more facts. I do it frequently."
The NFL commissioner is starting with Jones and Henry because these two players have a penchant for running afoul of the law. Everyone by now has probably heard of the trials and tribulations of 'Pacman' Jones, but Chris Henry has found his own little niche when it comes to bad boy behavior.
Chris Henry has been arrested four times in the last 14 months on charges that range from marijuana possession, a weapons charge, and a drunken-driving count that resulted in a guilty plea to reckless operation of a vehicle.
Considering all of the NFL players making more news recently for their off the field actions and not their on field actions, Mr.Goodell feels it is now time for the NFL to institute a new policy that deals with a players action away from the field. Mr.Goodell thinks the integrity of the NFL is at stake, and he hopes to have a player conduct policy in place before the start of the NFL draft. The NFL draft is set to take place on April 28-29.
I for one am starting to get a little tired of hearing about all the misconduct of players when they are away from the game. Let's hope the NFL comes up with some meaningful penalties other than fines, because let's face it, with the amount of money being made by the NFL players today, a fine is nothing more than a little slap on the wrist. If you really want to get a players attention, suspending a player from games is the best route to go.
