You may want to do your holiday shopping early this year because this may be the 'hot' game your kids, or kids at heart, may be asking for this year.
Just in time for the holiday season, Nintendo and Sega are joining forces to bring Mario, Luigi, Sonic, and Tails along with others to compete in their own Olympics. This video game will be sold for use on the DS and Wii platform.
There has always been rumors that someday these to video heroes would team up, but until now both Nintendo and Sega could not figure out a way to make such a collaboration work.
Sega was able to secure the licensing rights to the 2008 summer games, and Sega will be designing this game with oversight coming from Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto.
These two companies are hoping to take advantage of the Wii's motion-sensitive controller to create a fairly physical, interactive game that has not yet been imagined for use on the DS or Wii. Both companies plan on revealing more in the coming months, but so far we know this game will feature Olympic events that revolve around running, swimming and table tennis.
With kids being more interested in video games than outside activity, and with the rise of obesity among children, maybe this game will be the perfect marriage between gaming and some type of physical activity.
I guess we will just have to see if these two gaming companies can come up with something that gives our video addictive children some type of much needed physical activity, because it appears most children are more interested in staying inside to play video sports games than going outside and actually running around and the playing the sport on a field.
