VCU scores a not so stunning victory over Duke in the first round of the NCAA tournament. First George Mason, now Duke.
Virginia Commonwealth sophomore guard Eric Maynor sure has a flair for dramatics in big games. Maynor hit a 15-foot jumper with 1.8 seconds left in the Rams' 79-77 upset victory over the Blue Devils on Thursday night in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
For the first time since 1996, Duke is out in the first round of the NCAA tournament. This loss also ends the Blue-Devils string of nine straight Sweet Sixteen appearances for Duke. Duke was also bounced early in the ACC tournament.
By ending the season with 4 straight losses, Duke lost 11 games this year. This is the most for a Duke team since the 1995-1996 season.
With 2 quick exits in ACC and NCAA tournaments, does this mean the Duke reign is finally over or this is only a minor blip on the Duke Basketball machine? Only time will tell.
